What is Karma Yoga?
Karma Yoga is the Yoga of Selfless Service. The word Karma in Sanskrit means action or deed. Any physical or mental action is Karma. Thinking is mental Karma. Karma Yoga therefore is the performance of actions dwelling in union with the Divine or Universal Consciousness and for the good of all. Most importantly it is about delvering these actions without attachment to their outcomes removing attachment and remaining balanced ever in success and failure. In practical terms, on a retreat, ashram on community, this is about contributing to the running of the community by offering selfless service for the benefit of the whole community. On our retreats, your Karma Yoga will consist of activities such as washing up, making the tea, cooking, cleaning and making beds.
Costs Yoga and Sacred Sound Workshop - £30 per person Retreat accommodation - with additional sessions: £45 per person per night sharing twin bedded accommodation, includes additional yoga and meditation sessions, breakfast, snacks and ingredients for you to cook your own vegetarian evening meals. The total cost for the weekend, including the workshop, would be £120 per person
Yoga and Sacred Sound
Sacred sound refers to a variety of practices in which music and sound are used to increase health, well-being, and a balanced sense of harmony, for individuals and for communities. This sense of well-being and harmony is often connected to an understanding of music and sound as pathways to the divine, which facilitates an awareness of integration, wholeness, and well-being.
Drawing on many world cultures and spiritual traditions, sacred sound practices encompass music's ability to calm and soothe, as well as sound's capacity to awaken, balance, and energise. This may range from the use of sound and music in medical or workplace settings, to the learning of spiritual languages or melodies for self-study and/or worship, to the use of repeated sound formulas for spiritually-healing and meditational purposes. Spiritually therapeutic, sacred sound practices are varied and universal.
This weekend will comprise a morning yoga asana practice with an afternoon sacred sound session or “sound journey” led by Sacred Sound Therapist Fiona McLaren . Fiona will work with various sound “tools” such as crystal and Tibetan singing bowls, bells, tingsha, drums, shakers and the beautiful and resonant symphonic gong. Morning yoga will draw on the power of the voice through mantra to aid and empower our meditation. Suitable for all. . Overnight retreat accommodation and morning/evening meditations on offer at Fasgadh for those who wish to travel and stay the nights before and after the workshop. £30 for the day (workshop only)
