We hold regular workshops throughout the year, at ROKPA and other venues. Topics range from intensive and in depth work on asanas to the philosphical and spiritual aspects of yoga.
Workshop Dates for 2008
Sunday 3rd August 2008, ROKPA House, Glasgow
YIN Yoga
11a.m. – 1 p.m. and 2 p.m. – 4 p.m.
Most forms of Yoga practiced today emphasise muscular movement and contraction. By contrast Yin Yoga targets the connective tissue of the hips, pelvis and lower spine. Yin postures are held three to five to ten minutes at a time. This type of practice complements the more muscular (Yang) styles of Yoga and echoes much of the classical Hatha yoga teachings which emphasise asana as a preparation for sitting in meditation. Yoga practised in this style is accessible to anybody with any level of experience. It should appeal to anyone who wishes to focus on the health and mobility of their joints and in particular may benefit dancers, sports-people and athletes who may wish to focus on joint mobility or who may experience joint issues.
This workshop with experienced teacher of Hatha and Yin Yoga, Jude Murray, will explore various Yin sequences and some of the theory associated with practising yoga in this style. Jude had the pleasure of studying Yin Yoga with one of its leading exponents and teachers and renowned teacher of yoga anatomy, Paul Grilley. £30

Yoga and Sacred Sound
With Gong Bath
10 a.m. - 1 p.m. and 2 p.m.- 4 p.m.
Sacred sound refers to a variety of practices in which music and sound are used to increase health, well-being, and a balanced sense of harmony, for individuals and for communities. This sense of well-being and harmony is often connected to an understanding of music and sound as pathways to the divine, which facilitates an awareness of integration, wholeness, and well-being.
Drawing on many world cultures and spiritual traditions, sacred sound practices encompass music's ability to calm and soothe, as well as sound's capacity to awaken, balance, and energize. This may range from the use of sound and music in medical or workplace settings, to the learning of spiritual languages or melodies for self-study and/or worship, to the use of repeated sound formulas for spiritually-healing and meditational purposes. Spiritually therapeutic, sacred sound practices are varied and universal.
This weekend will comprise a morning yoga asana practice with an afternoon sacred sound session or “sound journey” led by Sacred Sound Therapist Fiona McLaren . Fiona will work with various sound “tools” such as crystal and Tibetan singing bowls, bells, tingsha, drums, shakers and the beautiful and resonant symphonic gong. Morning yoga will draw on the power of the voice through mantra to aid and empower our meditation. Suitable for all. . Overnight retreat accommodation and morning/evening meditations on offer at Fasgadh for those who wish to travel and stay the nights before and after the workshop. £30 for the day

Sivananda Yoga is a style of Hatha Yoga as taught by The International Sivananda Yoga Vedanta Centres. The Centres were founded by Swami Vishnu-devananda in 1957. He was sent to the west by his Master, Swami Sivananda to spread the ideals of Yoga and Vedanta with the words 'people are waiting'.
By closely observing the lifestyles and needs of people in the west Swami Vishnu-devananda synthesised the ancient wisdom of yoga into five basic principles around which the Sivananda teachings are based.
Proper Exercise (Asanas) Proper Breathing (Pranayama). Proper Relaxation (Savasana) Proper Diet (Vegetarian) Positive Thinking and Meditation (Vedanta and Dhyana)
This weekend, taught by Jude Murray, will incorporate the Sivananda sequence of asanas, pranayama, meditation, relaxation and chanting and some of the philosophical spiritual teachings of Yoga and Vedanta. Suitable for all. £60
